This week’s newsletter is officially our 10th issue! If you’re new here, welcome to your style cheat sheet. Twice a month, I share style tips, outfit inspo, and tackle common style questions, all from my experience as a men’s personal stylist.

After a couple of weeks of holiday and new year content, we’re back to regularly scheduled programming. Fresh trends to send to your group chat (or to keep to yourself), a Banana Republic jacket to indulge in, and brown monochrome to add to your workweek rotation.

It’s men’s fashion week in Milan, which means our first look at Fall/Winter 2026, and some collections almost had me in tears. I’m drooling over Zegna’s jackets (give me one of each!), Isaia’s clay brown colour palette is living rent-free in my head, and Ralph Lauren’s… everything is a styling masterpiece. (Did you spot the butter yellow we talked about last week?) Honorary mention to Canadian designers Dean and Dan Caten for getting Hudson Williams, of Heated Rivalry fame, to open the show.

It’s officially awards season. The Golden Globes just handed out awards for the best in movies and television, and I’m here to share my top three best-dressed guys of the night.

  1. Timothée Chalamet can’t lose this year. The audacity to wear Timberland boots with a custom three-piece velvet suit, and make it work? 10/10

  2. Michael B. Jordan kept it classic with a twist. A dark brown double-breasted two-piece suit with a butter yellow button-up, tinted glasses, and simple silver accessories.

  3. Owen Cooper, the 16-year-old from Adolescence, stood out in Bottega Veneta. He first drew attention for his formal workwear vibe when he wore custom Gap at the Emmys. Cool to see how the boys of Gen Z are approaching formalwear in 2026.

Massimo Dutti launched its January 2026 Men’s Collection, called “Sole Matter”. Here’s the lookbook. They described the collection as, “pieces connected through balance and intent, forming looks that feel coherent rather than constructed.” I think that’s just a fancy way of saying all the pieces match well together. I’ll admit that after learning that Massimo Dutti has the same parent company as Zara, I can’t help but wonder if I can find the same pieces at a fraction of the cost at Zara Man. The answer is, probably. Either way, I really like this cardigan, this jacket, and this suede leather bag.

I was in Mexico last week, and it occurred to me that it’s pretty hard to shop for summer clothes in the middle of a Canadian winter. Your best bet is to shop online. Many brands carry summer clothes year-round online. Simons has an entire swimwear section, and most websites have a “Casual Shirts” section where you’ll find lots of light button-downs and short sleeves. Reiss has some nice sets on sale, including this textured shirt and this striped option, but watch for duties and fees. They’re a UK brand.

Indulge 🤑

I stumbled on this coat while I was browsing the men’s section of Coach online (thank you, targeted ads). You wouldn’t typically see Banana Republic in an “indulge” section, but this coat is admittedly more expensive than I’d expect it to be. I was immediately drawn to it because of the checkered pattern that doesn’t overdo it, and its roomy, not baggy, fit. Love it for layering in the Winter or on its own in Spring and Fall.

Why It Works 👀

Why does this (and other monochrome outfits) work? Two things to remember:

  1. Choose slightly different shades of the same colour

  2. Add texture and patterns to break things up

Then, as always, think about balance. In this brown outfit, the base - shirt and pants - are solid colours with no texture. The tie and belt add contrast, each with a different pattern from the other and from the base.

You could also flip it: a solid-colour shirt with textured pants, paired with a solid belt and a textured tie. Same principle, different execution.

I’ll open it up to you. Want me to analyze an outfit? Send me an email anytime with a photo, and I’ll tell you why it works or why it doesn’t.

Add To Cart 🛒

Banana Republic’s winter sale is on until Thursday, Jan 22nd. 60% off select items. Check out this perfect winter tweed suit jacket.

If you’re curious about the cult-favourite DU/ER pants, the No Sweat Straight in Evergreen or Deep Taupe are on sale and easy to style with a cream sweater for a casual winter look.

Good Neighbour, a local Toronto general store that sells cool clothes, is having a “sale on sale,” an extra 10% off sale items. Great time to get your hands on pricier brands, like this rag & bone cashmere polo and this NN.07 half-zip.

Ask Me Anything 🙋🏻‍♀️

“Do I wear the shirt collar tucked under a sweater or over?”

Under. Always under. With the first button undone.
