As you read this, I’m in Japan eating, exploring, and doing lots of shopping. I’m excited to dig into all the fashion trends here that will inevitably make their way to North America. I’ll report back in a few weeks with the best styles and brands I see. For now, in today’s letter, what you need to know from all the fashion weeks in September, four jackets you should own this fall, and, as always, sales worth adding to cart.

September is fashion month, where some of the biggest brands showcase their Spring/Summer 2027 collections in New York, Paris, Milan, and London. Womenswear is the September focus, but some big names featured both men's and women's collections.
Next spring, preppy is back in looser fabrics. Similar to this year’s looser workwear, Tommy Hilfiger showed a collection of loose casualwear - shorts, rugby shirts, and polos.
Emporio Armani featured droopy, crinkled suits. Off the runway, I’d swap out the matching set and pair the crinkled pants with a structured, solid-coloured top.
The Burberry runway looked a lot different than what you’d expect, with its signature plaid print and trench coats. Spring/Summer 2027 looks a lot more colourful, with floral prints and stripes dominating.
Oversized blazers are here to stay, especially on the Gucci runway. For Spring/Summer 2027, you can expect more exaggerated shoulders and elongated loafers. And it seems even Gucci is leaning into quiet luxury. The GG logo mostly appears on the inside lining of coats rather than printed as large logos or monograms.
Lamine Yamal, the 19-year-old star of Spain’s national football team, just signed a five-year deal with American Eagle that includes brand campaigns and limited-edition product collabs. The first drop is a 28-piece collection that mirrors Yamal’s street style - baggy, oversized, streetwear. This cropped jacket is cool with the matching pants, and this cardigan is worth a look.
If you find yourself picking up the same colours from your closet, here are a few trending colour combos that don’t include navy. Burgundy and baby blue: try a baby blue dress shirt under a burgundy crewneck sweater. Yellow and brown: I like a chocolate brown suit with a butter yellow shirt. Olive green and cream: try an olive green chunky crewneck over cream-coloured pants.
Steal The Look 👀

Four jackets you should have in your closet this Fall/Winter.
Peacoat: The tan colour peacoat is the most common, though some may prefer black or grey. Mid-thigh is a good length, though taller guys can get away with calf-length as well. This one from Reigning Champ is one of my favourites.
Trench coat: Great for rainy days, and the in-between weather that’s not quite cold enough for a wool peacoat. Same advice applies for thigh and calf lengths. Since you'll wear it less often, you can take more risks on colour. Olive is a good choice. I'd skip classic tan or khaki, which can feel Inspector Gadget-y. I like this light beige one from Zara.
Bomber: If you’ve been here a while, you know I talk about bomber jackets a lot. There are many definitions of the bomber jacket, but generally, they are waist-length with a zipper. My favourite brand to browse bombers is Kith. They make amazing outerwear, including bombers, with unique prints and recognizable styles that aren’t too loud.
Parka: Because we live in Canada and can’t just get by with a peacoat. It’s hard to get too stylish with a big, puffy jacket, but I’d choose a non-quilted (non-bubble) jacket and avoid sherpa lining. I like this one from Mackage.
Indulge 🤑

I’ve been eyeing a Saturday Project hat for a while. I like its subtlety and ambiguity as a brand. Bonus that it’s a Canadian company that produces locally in Vancouver by a small team of seamstresses, using natural materials. Their pieces are understated, casual, classic, and intentionally unisex. Their pleated denim jacket stood out to me before I knew it was their signature piece. At $450, it’s not cheap, but it’s worth the splurge.

Lots of good colours on sale for the Du/er Performance Denim+ Straight jeans. I’d go with Dustbowl Blue.
There’s always something great on sale at Banana Republic. I recommend these dress pants a lot. There are not a lot of sizes left in the sale colour, but if yours is available, I’d buy it now.
It’s a good time to stock up on cardigans for fall. This is a really nice one from Everlane.
If you’ve been wanting to try CUTS t-shirts, they’re having a 50% anniversary sale. Their ribbed tanks are on sale too.
This KOTN full-zip sweater in Sunstar Red is so beautiful. And it’s on sale.
Another great option for a full-zip sweater. On big sale at Todd Snyder.
