The more I shop this spring, the more I’m genuinely loving the trends this season. Usually, I stick to the basics and earth tones, and sprinkle in trends if I think my client is actually open to them. But this spring, the trends look good on so many body types, and they seem to have longevity.

Everybody should embrace slightly oversized pleated trousers (the ones from Uniqlo look good on almost anyone under 6’1”), dark brown is the colour of spring and matches perfectly with baby blue (trust me), and it’s time to invest in a pair or two of straight-leg jeans (I linked a good discounted pair below). More tips like this and shopping links in today’s letter.

Bad Bunny and Zara launched a 150-piece collection called Benito Antonio (the rapper’s real name). The collab blends Bad Bunny’s personal world with Zara’s classic boxy/oversized style. There’s a lot of patchwork, bright colours, and stripes. At times, it gives me Ralph Lauren meets Old Navy vibes - which I’m unsure is good or bad. I do like this green sweater polo and this orange spring jacket, which also comes in plaid.

The viral Jeff Bezos loafers that everyone’s raving about have the same European old-money look that all my clients are after. If you’re looking for your first pair of suede loafers, I’d start with a classic beige. And before you spend $1,500 for Bezos’ Loro Piana pair, you can get an almost identical version at Steve Madden for $115. You’re welcome.

A three-way designer collab between an Hermès creative director, a Japanese designer, and Adidas gives us a $500 pair of sneakers called the Y-3 Field Lizzard. The long-awaited release brings together menswear brand Wales Bonner, founded by Grace Wales Bonner, and Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. The dark brown sneakers, inspired by Adidas’ soccer roots, look a lot like cleats, but feel runway-ready with their faux lizard pattern and flat sole. With all the hype around the launch, I’m honestly surprised they’re not already sold out.

The Cannes Film Festival just wrapped in France, complete with glitzy galas, fancy red carpets, and movie screenings, of course. But I’m here for the fashion. Here’s what this year’s festival confirmed about men’s style right now: oversized pleated trousers are (still) in, and so is dark brown. Brooches really want to be a thing, and the black tux is still man’s best friend. See GQ’s take on this year’s best dressed.

Indulge 🤑

We don’t talk enough about Suit Supply. With only three physical locations in Canada (Toronto, Montreal, and Burnaby), this Dutch menswear brand is known for its quality tailoring. They carry everything from polos to outerwear, but they’re best known for their suiting - offering both classic and trendy styles, and priced at a premium. This double-breasted light green suit is perfection. Not cheap, though, starting at $1,199, depending on customizations.

On My Radar 👀

Summer is here (?). At least, that’s what the fashion houses are saying, with many releasing summer collections this week. Here are a couple on my radar.

Kith enlisted Jonah Hill to front its summer campaign. Known for brand and celeb collabs, the summer collection is no different, with uniquely-Kith patterns mixed with light silk and linen fabrics for summer. It’s like streetwear meets NYC boat cruise. I like Kith for their outerwear - this floral tapestry jacket is a standout, as is this more understated striped full zip jacket

Aimé Leon Dore, another NYC brand, released its summer collection last week, and almost everything is already sold out. Their summer vibe is more European yacht, but you were born in Queens, NY. There’s something special about this striped sweater and this mesh shirt.

Ask Me Anything 🙋🏻‍♀️

“What should I wear with white pants?”

If you’re wearing white or light cream pants this spring, you’re already on the right track. The best colour pairings for white pants are creams, browns, and pastels. If you want to wear a darker colour like navy or black, add a softer tone to balance it out, like this. A good rule of thumb: stick to no more than 3 colours in one outfit. Or keep it easy with a cream monochrome look and pair your white pants with Bezos-approved duped loafers from above.
